Musical and Teaching Philosophy

Imagine if you were taught to read before you learned to talk.

That’s how traditional music pedagogy is structured. You might know how to make the sounds, but do you know what they mean?

Typical music lessons are focused on reading and simply reproducing notes from a page. Lessons with George Wilde will prioritize the holistic musical development of the student. This includes listening to music, identifying themes and sounds, rhythmic movement, ear-training, singing, as well as technical training on the instrument.

We will balance learning to play by ear with written exercises and musical notation. Both are critical to learn to play.

Music is an art and a science, rooted in creativity and love. Let’s have some fun!
